Spier Win~ O,er Hart At Dunlap have land to r1de on freely and without a hassle 10 the f uture thts message appUes directly to you. The Horsey Set For 4-1/2 years the San Mateo Hlklng and Tralls Committee has met to discuss, plan, and approve traUs for recreational use by the res1dents of San Mateo County. Th1s commlttee conststs of 16. representatives, 14 of which are e1ther ' hor semen or hikers. The other 2 members represent motorcycUsts. These motorcyclists, Ray Abrams representing the dealers and Alan Bygdnes, the club representative, for the county, have been constantly turned down whenever there Is a vote and a demand for motorcycle tralis malntalned by the county. But the horsemen, because of their major1ty 10 the comm1ttee, have galned a tremendous mlleage of publlcly malntalned tralls, wh1ch are posted: NO MOTORCYCLISTS ALLOWED. Is this a democratic procedure when th e County Recreation Department caters to the needs of 2,000 horsemen and has chosen to completely ignore the 25,000 motorcycllsts-taxpayers of the county? Presently, the horsemen have mUes of public tralls, but motorcycllsts must f1nd pr1vate land to r1de on. Th e Future The Tralls Comm1ttee of San Mateo County is plannlng to bulld 361 mUes of horse tralls over a pertod of 30 years, at a cost of mllllons of $$$$ to the taxpayers. There are no plans for motorcycle tratls, Would you as a motorcycllst-taxpayer beneflt? Absolutely not. Wh at Can We Do? The motorcycle clubs and dealers of San Mateo ·County have for m ed the San Mateo County Motorcycle Association to represent all motorcyclists of' the county. They are go1og to present their case to the Board of Supervisors with the help and guidance of an av1d motorcycle enthusiast, Dan Clapp, an attorney with Melv10 Ba111, of Ba111, Ashe, Elllson, Choulos, and Lieu. Dan 1s an excellent 'mouthp1ece' for our group since he Is totally aware and concerned about our speclf1c problems. He isn't a one shot r1der. He owns a b1ke and r 1des 10 the dirt, so this Is also a personal problem confronting htm, Dan potnts out that the 2,000 horsemen are not even paytng anyth10g near the amount of taxes that the 25,000 motorcycllsts are paytng, Act Immediately Dan, AI, and Ray need the publlc support for thts campaign that will affect all motorcycllsts. We must act immediately. They want all motorcycle r1ders, street or dirt, to appear at the Board of Supervisors meeting on March 24. We don't want to be ignored. The Board of Supervtsor s wUl act when they are confronted with hundreds of motorcycUsts demand1ng action, now. Let us show them that we motorcycUsts take an Interest 10 our rfghts, This meeting is open to everyone, Including out-of-county res1dents. Come and support motorcycting.
