By Ron Szilagyi HUNTINGTON BEACH, canr., Feb. 15, 1970 - The Motocross course was in good shape with a few mud hole.. to make the riding interest1ng. The 500cc Sr . Class was the feature race of the day. Carl Cotton, Jack Mahan and Mike Chamberla1n were hy far the best racers on the tleld. In the tlrst moto of the 500cc class Carl Cotton (Amer . Eagle) worked his way from slxth place to second behind the outstanding rider Jack Mahan (HuskY). In the second 500 Moto Mike Chamberla1n (Matco) took an early lead, only to be overtaken by Carl, Cotton. The dynamic duo then proceeded to lap the tle1d . Mike rega1ned the lead in the closing laps but sUpped on a muddy turn taking Carl Cotton with him. The motorcycles were untangled and Mike was ott for the win , leaving Carl in the mud with a bike that wouldn't start. The f1na1 race of the 500cc found Carl Cotton's American Eagle in first place. Mike Chamberla1n's Matco in second and Jack Mahan's Husky In third. The tlna1 awards were given In the same order. In the 250cc Sr. race Dick Allen took all three Motos forthetlrst placetrophy. Points were spread thin in the 250cc Jr . Class with Jack Hawk (Kawasaki) taking a first, Mike Keene (Ossa) second and B1ll Rugt1ve ( Ya maha) third. Lloyd Quintard (Yamaha) received a tlrst place trophy in the 125 Sr. class. In the 125 Jr. Class John Sheeler took the first place trophy. Bill Nowak (Hodaka) took the class trophy for the 100cc Motocross. (Results on page 19) Mik Chamberlain has the edge oYer Carl Calla n here but Carl picked up the win with his e American Eagle .
