Majesties Open R.R.C. Season 800 Riders Attend By Bill Harmer F ebr uary 8, 1970- Mother Nature smiled on the Majes ties M.C. of Los Angele s as they hosted their Second Annual Royal Poker Run. As the club has only been chartered for about two years, lack of seniority in the Road Riders Committee for ced them to accept a calendar date for the run that would not usually be considered favorable as it is in the exact middle of winter. This particular Southern Calltorn1aSunday, however, dawned bright and clear. The temperature ascended pleasantly into the 80's. As the day progressed and the 576 officially accounted-for riders whosigned in at Long Beach Harley-Davidson, along with at least 200 tag-a-longs, found the 90 mile tour through Orange and Los Angeles Counties very pleasant. The only " Fly in the Ointment" was that mllllons of Angelenos took advantage of the perfect weather to go for a drive out in the open spaces in their smog belching fourwheeled monsters. The result was a gigantic tratnc jam that delayed the unfortunate cycltsts' schedule until the check points had to stay open for more than an hour past closing deadline . The tour route took the riders through the beach cities on the old Pacitic Coast Highway where the many bikini-clad cuties provided a te mporary reilef to smog sore eyes. At John Ford Park the riders drew the last card of their poker hand and turned their interests to food, fun and games. The Egg Throwing Contes t s aw a lot more loser s than winners and you could identity them by their egg ' splattered clothes. When the referee ble w the whis tl e for the " Boot Finding" Conte st, there was more bodily contact than in the Rams-Vildngs game. The trophy for the club with the largest number of members present went to the very active Knights M.C. who had ten members present . The newly organized BMW Owners Club of San Diego showed uP with twelve bikes and t1tteen members, but because their AMACharter had not yet been issued, they could not enter as a club much to their disappointment. George H. Helsel of Long Beach didn't receive any trophies, but he and his passenger, a long-tailed black monkey, named " Cindy", probably drew more attention than any other " CO uPle" at the run. Hundreds of trophies were given for the winning poker hands, but the excitement was so high and accompanied by noisy contusion tha t it was impossible to ascertain the names of the recipients. As the sun faded into the western haze, the tired but happy r ider s mounted their machines and bid a reluctant farewell to AMA District 37'S First Championship Point Run of 1970. U it is any indication of thin gs to come, Los Angeles Motorcycle Touring enthusiasts are in for a very good year • Motorcycle Pills Garage Sale Open To All Have you got motorcycle parts to sell, or parts you wish to buy??
