Many of these hot shoes w111 graduate onto larger bikes next season. The 125 class had many riders. After the heats were run and main event starters selected, the Novices were called UP. Gary Chrisman, Bultaco mounted, duelecl back and forth during the race with Lester Manson and Rod Pires, both riding Yamahas, but Gary f1nally came out first. The 125 Expert-Amateur combination was a carbon copy of two weeks ago. Experts Ron Tobey, with Leon Cotton again pushing all the way, bested the George Beckett's Bultaco. This race is always a high 11gbt 01. an evening's program. Ron and Leon's Yamaha really get a work out with these two excellent riders aboard. The 250 Amateur found Leonard Reed showing the way around ahead 01. Ray Com"r, and Jack Dodds, all riding Bultacos. Two of the hardest workers at the Hanford track, both members of the K. C .M. c: 0' put on the greatest disPlay at: "closb-les:.." witnessed in a long time. Herschel SpurlDet, and Harvey BQ.kk.er, hath astride Bultacos in the 250 Expert, finished in that order. with another tlUltaco riddell bY RlChllrd Periera crossing for third. Dale Arrat aboard his 360 Malco looked sharp edging out Wayne Howard, Bultaco, with another Maf:co ridden by Mike' Spangler placing third in the 360 Novice class. 'FIle 500 Amateur was Bob King and his BSA all the way. Once again Skip Saylor and his Screaming Eagle had a real duel with Don Harrell and his BSA. Oct. 12, 1969~ Mota-Cross racing is a fast-growing sport in Northern Cant. with the help of such clubs as the Dirt Diggers North. The Dirt Diggers North have applied for AMA sanction before each event is run. But the AMA continues to deny this club any sanctions. This week'S event was a great success without the help of AMA with more than 275 riders, which included about ten of the Dirt Diggers So. Bob Grossi, (recently back from Europe) and other tOP riders. The track was in good sba,pe with no dust making it safe for riders and enjoyable for thespeetatorswhichnumbered in the 1500s. The 250 Expertrace with Husky riders, Bob Grossi and Bill Saltzman coming out on top of third place Ossa rider Randy Lackey. Grossi won the first Mota but couId do DO better than second and third in the next two Motos. Where the smooth riding of B1l1 Saltzman paid off by winning the last two Motos. With a second place in the first behind Grossi to take an over all win and the big brass. 35 A.F.M. MEMBERS SHOW 250 Expert winner Herschel Squrlock hot shou his Bullaco. Triumph, Bob Reinke, also Triumph, followed by Ed and his BSA for third. Next on the line were the 650 Amateurs, with the best Amateurs in the business gathered together. Louie Wood, Alan Haydon, and Roger Davidson, riding in each other's shadows swapped positions frequently. The final result was as listed, Louie, Alan, and Rilger, Triumph first, and BSA for the next two positions. The 650 Experts got off to a good tight start. Jim McCracken built up a comfortable lead, and looked like a certain winner. But Jim ran into tough inck, and lost it coming out of the sweeper where the pack sped past hfm. Although not hurt, Jim could not make up the time lost. Gene Chandler W3S able to hold off the rest to grab first place honors riding his very quick Triumpb followed by the Bezza's of Darrel Mc CaullY, and Carroll Jackson. This night W3S for Tim Thomas, and all at: the riders seemed to be riding for hfm. None have ever looked better, in winning or for that matter, losing. (Results on page 20) SAN FRANCISCO, CAL. Oct. 8, 196~ Only 27-1/2% of the San Francisco Chapter of the AFM members supported this , club by attending the best meeting in a long time. In order for road racing to survive in Northern Cali!ornia the support of the members is necessary. Big plans for 1970 were discussed. Like road races, h111 cllmbs, club poker runs and moto-cross. Don't miss the point race coming up this Sunday, Oct. 19th at Vacaville, Cai. The AFM Season Tropby banquet will be Nov. 29th. It has always been a big success so come on members, let's keep it that way. CREStliNE CYCLE TRAIL CLEARED FOR RIDERS A trail in Idaho's Scout Mountain and Mink Creek area has been cleared and marked for motorcycle riding. The Crestline Cycle Trail, as It is called, is the first trail In District Four of the U.S. Forest Service, which covers southern Idaho and part of Utah. The 3 foot wide trail runs about 7- 1/2 miles along the north and east sides of Scout Mountain, around Mink Creek Road, and then back to the starting point. Good vision and safety are emphasized, thanks to the develOPerS, the Pocatello Trail Machine Club and the U.5.
