He has managed a motorcycle dealership, raced and officiated, taught motorcycle mechanics courses In schools, been a wrtterphotographer for a motorcycle newspaper, and sold brushes door to door. Lovingly reslored by Sammy Molcilo, who has owned the antique board burner for 16 years, the machine started life as a 61 cubic inch (I,OOOcc). It was opened up 10 68 cubic inches by famed tuner Tom Sifton in a race for horsepower that slarted before many of us were born. Believed to have been owned originally by Dudley Perkins, longtime S.F. Number plates are •••n part of the packal" ALTAMONT SPEEDWAY OPENS TO MDTOCROSSERS After a five year history of unsuccess, Altamont Speedway has opened to motecrossers. Promoter Dick Carter in cooperation with the HilltoppersofQakland laid out an AMA sanctioned motocross track in the infield. Originally the track encompassed a fourth-mile and a half-mile oval. Now the new motocross course surrounded by a grandstand includes several jumps. no straightaway, and a tricky mud hole. Spectators are limited to the stands rather than being able to stand right at the edge of the action. OREGON COMMISSIONERS DEBATE LAND USE FOR RACERS In Salem, Oregon, the question of recognizing motorcycle racing as a "legitimate recreation" stirred debate at a planning commission session. State Rep. Jack Anunsen, a member of the Marlon County Planning Commission, stated, "I think the commission should start making a place for this type of activity and helP these people find locations where they can enjoy themselves.' , The question involved the use of Salem Motocross Park. Noise created by the racers ralsed complalnts from nearby residents. The Commissioners decided to let the group continue their present season, ending Oct. 20.
