These riders challenge a difficult but natural motocross; up hUls. in between trees, down through a dry wash, uoder a low hanging tree branch, and through mud and water hazards. Everett Creech tried to capture the real feellng of the races - bumps andall - by taking action shots from his camera bikes. Creech was also in charge of setting up stunts for the races. By Ma uree n Lee ~~~~~~~~~ We have somebaPpy things to announce in our column this week. First, we know that all scramblers all wish all haPPiness to Kirk McDowell and his bride Linda. They were married August 31st in Riverside. Kirk, who lost the number one plate to Steve Scott a couple of years ago by a whisker and then won It on a 100cc bike has been one of the best representatives of our sport. Motorcycles are an important part of his life, but after he won that number one plate he was sensible enough not to let them interfere with college and creating a career for h1mself so he then rode just when he could really spare the time. We hope, when they are settled, to see him back out again and maybe Linda could be persuaded into the Powder Puff class. CORRIGANVILLE Hurrayl Corriganv1lle will once again take place where It was hatched, eleven years ago: Corriganville. (No, 1still will not call It HopetownJ 'Ibis year things were very sticky indeed as to whether It would take place after the DIrt DIggers TT scrambles were scratched from that location and held at San Clemente. And next year ••• ? who knows, buttor this year It will be back to the old stomping grounds. Entries will be done a little differently. If you rode last year you will receive two entry forms in the mall and forms will be available at other locations such as the DIstrict 37 Sports Committee meeting. Now this doesn't mean it's "invitational" but after the hullabaloo this year the DIggers are just about broke and cannot afford to pay for those expensive newspaper entry forms. If you want to ride you'll still be able to find a form. Entries open Midnight, September 18th by postmark as always. Get your form in too early and It will be put back and if you're entering the crowded classes like 100 or 250cc Novice this could lose you a place as there are only limited entries for safety's sake. One of the hlgh-elechon DIggers says, and I'll agree with him 100%, that he wishes scramblers would get more entries in earlier to get better starting positions on the front two lines. Over recent years it's always the desert boys who get the largest share of the good positions and o~y because they get off the sofa and get their entries in right on the dot. Maybe they're more point hungry than we are but those front positions mean a lot at Corrlganv1llewhen thepUeups start on the first few turns! SEARS DOES CARE vacation flying around the country .v1th a buddy in a vintage World War n fighter plane, both guys wearing leather "Snoopy" flying helmets! •••JohnRicealmost did himself out of his European trip by getting pranged by Jim Connolly at the Ascot Motocross, it felt like a broken arm by X-rays show It Isn't•• .a lot of good equipment got mangled on thatdrop off the crash wall there •••Dave Aldana saId he'd sure like to come out to Perris once in a while and ride a scramble but he's just too busy•••with the record he's bullt up this year all in District 37 are proud of you, David and it wouldn't be worth getting hurt at a Sporting event just before a National, however much as we'd like to see you back agaIn! It won't be long before DIstrict elections come up for officers and the Competition Committee, so please clubs, start thinking about who you'd like to see represent you. 'Ibis past year we've had more scrambles people working than before and let's keep It that way. Makes the Competition Committee meetings more interesting! There have been years when only one scrambler was either an officer or a committeeman. We only wish It was "kosher" to make some recommendations in print for nominations but It ain't. Oh well. ~ ~~~~ TIE DOWN FROM ARAGON Unlike most tie downs, this Aragon nylon tie down is easy to operate - both when tightening and when loosening. And It's strong; no fear of damaged bike from a broken tie down. S hooks are extra heavy duty and the nylon strap has a tensUe strength of 5000 pounds. For $8.95 a pair, you can't beat It. To get a copy of the motorcyclist's constantly growing "Go and Show" catalog featuring many exclusive items, readers may send one dollar to Aragon Distributing Co., 323 W. Maple, Monrovia, Calfornla 91016. MT. VIEW, CAL., Aug. 26, 1969 - At a recent scrambles Al ShaPiro of Paramount Studios revealed the making of a new movie. Motorcycle racing, he saId, is tile subject of producer Albert S. Ruddy's fUm, "Little Fause and Big Halsey", starring Robert Redford as "Big Halsey", Michael J. Pollard as "Little Fause", and Lauren Hutton as their female companion. In the story, these three travel together all over the United States, "doing their thing at motorcycle races" • The locations for the shooting have been In Arizona, in the Mojave desert, Uvas Meadows on Hall's ranch nearGllroy, CalifornIa, and the final sequences will be shot at Sears Point International Raceway just north of San Francisco during the 125 Mile National Road Race on September 6 and 7.
