WIth ~ the six-man handicap beats, Steve was U !be only 50-yard man to place in the Hand1c'1P Semi's as be topped his beat and came back to repeat his win in the semi. He won tile match race over Woods It looked like it was go1ng to be Steve Bast's nlCbt to pull the big one until the Scratch Semi where Steve got a beautiful start oil the line and was first into tile corDer. but Woods seemed more determined tban ever as he stormed into tile corner in beautiful shape and passed Bast coming out to take tile lead and hold It to tile end at. tile race. The handicap main event was touch and go for Steve at first as Blll CodY and Jim Doron were battling for tile lead, but by waiting his chance, Steve got around lo:I :z: them for tile lead and crossed the line tor the cbeckered flag followed by Jim Doran, Blll CodY, Mike Kon1e, Mike Bast and Norm Elledge. Typical of this season's action; a Rick Woods·Steve Bast duel. Woods took the lead and with Steve Bast running in second, Larry Helnselman, Great Bear Racing Teams knight in patriotic armor was moving uP for his chance at the glory as be moved uP behind Steve. Larry was able to keep Mike Bast behind him for the entire race and keep the tblrd spot for himseU even if he couldn't move past Steve. The only bad accident at. the evening was in tile second event when Bruce Haserot went down In the first corner and a following riders' footpeg caught him In the hack of. the helmet. As he was a Ii We woosy, he was taken to the hospital for a check-uP and released, another victory for the safety helmet Industry.
