ClIDYClIl walls tramed tile start1rIg point
for SUDday's aDDual Mojaft Hospital
BeDeflt Enduro. 'Ibis event attracts more
and more riders eacb year; 540 entrants
made tbls a record breaker for !be
Sbamroct M.C.
The course conslsted d. two loops d.
50 miles eacb. The flrstloop was clocked
at two hours and twenty-flft minutes for
an average d. just 0ger twenty mUes per
hour. Riders fowld mostly open trails
with a few q>hUls and !be famous "Sand
HUl" next to Highway 14.
'IbIs hUl starts almost stralght down
over cobby rocks, and then drops Into
deep, soft sand that comes uP to the
hubs of the too-slow riders. There were
some real 'get- offs' here but there were
also riders who used secood gear and
cruised down, making it look easy. MIke
Hensley was one of the latter, riding with
a girl on the back of his bike!
Those who finlshed on time had a halfhour lunch break and then it was on to
the second loop.
Loop two was timed for two hours and
twelve minutes and took the riders into
the highlilr mountains.
This motorcyclist's version of a 'car
rally proved to be a good famUy aftaIr
even though not everyone finished.
Physical condition, or lack of it, was
important as many dropped out at the
halfway point.
The Harley-Davidson team was out in
full force and determined to win.
Those who made It all the way saw
beautifUl country to ride through and
said they had lots of fun.
Complete resUlts will be publlslied
when they are tabulated.
