Af. I'I~ lice ORANGE COUNTY PbolDs by De... 1s Greeoe EL TORO. CALIF, May 4 - Ralpb WhIte, dr1tt1ng his factory Yamaha TD-2 through the turns, was the most talked-about rider at AFM's Orange County InternatiOll&1 Raceway roadsbow. He t1n1sbed second to Ron Pierce, which Is no disgrace, and earned $40 for his performance. Sideback passenger Al Burnett, 28 years old, took the f1nal checkered flag on tile way to the bospital In the first sidecar tragedy since the spectacular cba1rs came on the scene. Racing close to another back on the stra1glltaway, the leading rig's engine suddenly cougbed and slowed and Burnett's pilot was unable to avoid a collision. Al will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He Is survived by his mother, wife and three Mini, MIni-bit.. children. Art Baumann found the new turn one too sharp a couple of times, yet raced to a first place tie with Ron Grant In the open Senior Grand Prix. It was a race h1gblIgbted by the dual Commando duel between Jack Simmons and George Ker~r. At the checkered, Simmons and Kerker rode down the straight laughing and giggling with their arms around each other. TheY'd bad fun. Mike Keen, riding a BSA Rocket 3, took the Open production win away from Simmons and Kerker, by riding a cool race, calming It on the corners and letting the horsepower work. Course control was Improved by actIng boncho John McLaugblln. A green flag was shown on each corner while the course was clear. Volunteer radio comm unlcatians were again provided by the International Racing Radio Crew.
