Aberg WinsJ Nelson DNF's • Austrian Gp C) Bengl Aberg shook off the injury jinx whlch seems to have hlt the Husky team riders to take the opening round of the 500ec world's championship motocross. Two more Husky team members were hurt at the Austrian Grand Prix, held April 20th. This raises the teams casualty list to five. Torsten Hallman, Jan Johansson, and Aberg are the only fit riders remainlng. John Banks and Keith Hickman rode BSA's to second and fourth places while Peter Dobry took third on a CZ. American Ron Nelson dldn't finish on his factory Montesa after expressing dlspleasure about the handling of hls machine during a visit to the Spanish factory. Ron felt the frame geometry was wrong but couldn't get the Spanlards to listen. He grabbed a saw and cut the frame in two at the steering head aDd had it welded more to his satisfaction. Ron was happy with the frame but a mIshap in the sixth lap of the flrst heat put a damper on the AmerIcan's hopes, Ron tore a brake lever off on an otfcamber lett hand turn and fought his way down the longest aDd steepest stretch of the course to end up in a helIP at the bottom. He flnlsbed the second heat but hls position in the standings was unava1lab1e at press time. John DeSoto was not entered. SUZUKI 13161 Freeway Drive Santa Fe SPrin8e, Calif. ~ Don Emde noted road racer has now taken to the dirt track in the style true to the Emde name. Sponsored by Floyd Emde Motorcycle in San Diego, Don made it three main event wins and two in a row for the season. The Suzuki X6R Hustler long in the winner's circle at road races everywhere has now invaded the dirt track, supremacy of other 2 cycle machines. Watch for things to come.
