Bengl Aberg shook off the injury jinx
whlch seems to have hlt the Husky team
riders to take the opening round of the
500ec world's championship motocross.
Two more Husky team members were
hurt at the Austrian Grand Prix, held
April 20th. This raises the teams casualty list to five.
Torsten Hallman, Jan Johansson, and
Aberg are the only fit riders remainlng.
John Banks and Keith Hickman rode
BSA's to second and fourth places while
Peter Dobry took third on a CZ.
American Ron Nelson dldn't finish on
his factory Montesa after expressing
dlspleasure about the handling of hls
machine during a visit to the Spanish
factory. Ron felt the frame geometry
was wrong but couldn't get the Spanlards
to listen. He grabbed a saw and cut the
frame in two at the steering head aDd had
it welded more to his satisfaction.
Ron was happy with the frame but a
mIshap in the sixth lap of the flrst heat
put a damper on the AmerIcan's hopes,
Ron tore a brake lever off on an otfcamber lett hand turn and fought his way
down the longest aDd steepest stretch of
the course to end up in a helIP at the
bottom.
He flnlsbed the second heat but hls
position in the standings was unava1lab1e
at press time.
John DeSoto was not entered.
Next round of the 500ec serles is in
