Allbee Photos by Vic Ebbutt SEATTL E, wasn., Sept . 29 - The weath . erman could not have pi cked a better day for the Greater Seattle Motorcycle Club's Benefit Scrambles for Joe Dahners of Renton, Washington, who was Injur ed seriously at the National TT at Castle ROCk, Washington, In J uly. Gordon Ochs of Seattle won the Open A Main, but' had to work hard for It as Bill Noble was just Inches behin d all the way. The Open B Main was just as exciting, as Seattle's Tony Schatz also had to ride hard and fast for his first place win ah ead of Stev e Holton . Gary Regan took the Open Class C Main and Dave Furneners of Seattle took second place. Of all the Main Events, the 250cc Class A Main was perhaps the mos t thrilling . Jim Einarsson fr om Shelton finally won after a see-saw battle with Gor don o cns , Jim Smith of Seattle took the 250cc B Main hand ily. John Wathers also from Seattle, comlngfromfUth position, worked his way up to take second. The 250cc C Mai n was won by Phi l Lester from Seattle with Gary Brown fr om Tacoma In second. Dave Fy ler from Everett, r iding his firs t event In over a year, won the 200cc A Main. Mark Nic coli fr om Kent, just Inches behind, was second. . Dennis McCarthy from Seattle put on a fine show for the fans to win the 200cc B Main but close beh i nd was Don Lapp from Tacoma. The 200cc Class C Main Even t was won by Don Towne from Auburn. Jo hn Tom, only 17 years old, worked his way up from sixth place to the s econd place spot. One out in the desert for about 40 miles and the other for 150 miles through the beautiful Valley of Fire. Both runs ended up back at the campgrounds wher e trophies were given out. The baldest rider, George Kelley, was also the oldes t r ider. Mr s . Kelley took the oldest female trophy but we' ll not mention her age. In the Street Poker Run: Gloria Cox 1st; Paul Pfister 2nd; Roger Pfister. 3rd. On the dir t run: Doug Kick 1st: Keit h Stevers, 2nd; Le e Mayse 3rd. The run was really an enjoyable one. The 100cc Class B Main Event was an other exciting eve nt with the lead changing four or five times between Bill Beuaart and Jim Thompson from Seattle . He was always a fair and hone s t scramble s rider . J oe kept these qualities as he ve ntured Into the professional raci ng game . He s tarted out as a Novice r ider, then Into the Amateur class and from there the past two s easons a n Expert r ider . At the National TT Rac e at Ca s tl e Rock, J oe had a s er ious a ccide nt during practice and br oke both legs. J oe is the father of three children, the latest a thre e-week-old baby boy.
