The only time Olve was in serious trouble was when Randy Ellis on his Honda tried to make a pass on that tricky southwest corner, got in trouble and almost fell. After Randy's little mishap, Bill Cody was able to get by and Randy was forced to take a third place. In hot pursuit of the front runners came Stan Rogers and Carroll Skov. All three fellows handled their Triumphs quite well around this 'IT course. The 250cc Main went to Randy Ellis, the Trophy Dash winner, but Randy had a time of it. Half of the 250cc Main Event was led by Bill Cody, and only with a great amount of deter mination was Randy able to get by Bill. ORANGE COUNTY HONORS By Mike Capalite EL TORO, Cal., Aug. 21 - With an entry list topping the 80 mark, it took some doing to bring home the gold Wednesday night at Orange County Speedway, and despite the lateness of the program, a full night of racing was enjoyed by all. To avoid haVing the races last so long . a rule Is being put into effect that the pit gate will definitely close down at 7:30. and absolutely no entries will be accepted and no entries will be allowed to be changed. One of the reasons for the late start was the accepting of entries up until 8:15. Another rule that is going to be enforced is the mandatory three number plates. The 125cc Class in the Short Track was won by Mark Kruse (Bultaco), while Olve Aldana (Suzuki) was right on his rear wheel all the way. Working his way up to a third place was Jimmy Raymond (Suzuki), with Chris Smith (Kawasakl) finished fourth. The 250cc Short Track Main was the one that had the crowd on Its feet as it was a battle 'between Randy Ellis (Honda), Bill Cody (Bultaco), Olve Aldana (Ossa) an d Eddie Boa (Yam aha). As Cody had beaten these riders in the Trophy Dash, he was the favorite, buthe couldn 't find the way around Ellis, and Randy came across with the win with Cody second and Aldana third. Eddie Boa retired before the end of the race leaVing the fourth place slot to Jim West (Bultaco) . The Open class was the only class short on entries for the night. There were a gang of entries in the open TT, but they seemed to shy away from running in the Short Track as only four of them entered, and only Rick Woods (Triumph) and Randy Ellis (Honda) made it to the line for the Main with Ellis finally taking the win after swapping the lead with Woods three or four times in the race. Aldana All The Way The 125cc TI' class Is by far the most popular class, and to wind up In the Main from the heats and the semis takes a lot . of good r iding. The man to beat in this class Is definitely OlVid Aldana (Suzuki) who proceeded to win his heat, the Trophy Dash , and then the Main Event, while the best that Jimmy Raymond could do NEW ORANGE .C U T O NY INTERNATIONAL RACEWAY Randy Ellis (60) outdistanced all rivals In , 250cc TT Main Event at Orange County. was a second place on his Suzuki. TIlird place was Mark Kruse (Bultaco) whohad taken the lead off the line, but couldn 't hold out against the onslaught of Aldana and Raymond. Fourth place went to Mike Toussau on a Kawasaki. In the 250Cc TI Main, it was Bill Cody the winner on his Bultaco while Randy Ellis (Honda) took the Trophy Olsh. second in the Main went to OlVid Aldana (Ossa) who has to be made of steel to enter all the classes that he does and place so high so consistently. 'lbird and fourth went to Paul Coberly (Bultaco) and Mike Toussau (Kawasakl). The fifth place f1nlsher was Tom Rockwood who had borrowed a DT-l Yamaha to ride, and had taped up the taillight rather than remove It, and everytime he would enter a corner, the brake light would show through the tape. much to the delight of the fans. In the Open TI' class, it was Don Dudek (Triumph) winning the Trophy Dash, but he had to take a second place in the Main Event to Len Burke (Triumph) . TIlird and fourth went to Ed Walker (Triumph) and Olve Lenar (BSA). For an action packed evening, it's every Wednesday night at the Orange County Speedway , but remember that the pit gates will close at 7:30.
