Rather than conflict with another track running on the same night, It was decided to cancel the Wednesday night short track and i ncl ude a short track class on Thursday night during the TT races If the entries so warranted. There were no entries for the 250Cc short track, but a IOOcc class was r un with Dan Hazel (Yamaha) and Lloyd Qulntard (Yamaha) fighting it out In the heat race for the lead with Qulntard holding it all the way, but i n the IOOcc Short Track main, Hazel jumped into the lead with one of his usual j ackrabbit starts, and it wasn 't until the last lap that Lloyd was able to get around him f or the win. Third place was Joe Ambrose (Suzuki) with Jim Hurley copping fourth on his Hodaka. Bailey Sweeps Seniors In the IOOcc TT, It was Gary Bailey (Hodaka) again maklng a clean sweep In the Senior Class with Bryan Spinks (Yamaha) second and Dale Hopklns(Hodaka) third. Gary also won the Trophy Dash on his potent little Van Tech Hodaka. The Junior class was a battle between Steve Hyder (Hodaka) and Dan Hazel ( Yamaha) . As always happens , If you want to beat Dan you have to pass him, since his ability to get off the line I s fantastic. He doesn't do I t by second-guessing the starter, he just leaps out of the hole on the start like he was shot out of a cannon. Third place in the Juni or Class went to Jack Morgan (Hodaka) followed closely by Lloyd Quintard (Yamaha). In the 250cc class , Gary Bailey showed the Senior Class the way around as he took wins In both the Trophy Dash and the Main Eve nt. The Main Event was not quite as easy as it has been f or him, f or he was chased all the way by Jerry For mby ( Yamaha), and Jerry was i n striking distance of Gary's Greeves ail the way, but Gary I s the kind of consistent r i der who very seldom makes a mistake. YAMAHA Bob Maynard's ORANGf CO. CYCLE 205 N. Harbor Blvd . Santa Ana (714) 53109984 Juniors Jump The 250cc Junior Class was a win for a r ider who has been showing a l ot of improvement since he started running this tricky TT course, and he wlll be another man for Bailey to watch out for when he moves up to the Senior Class. We're speaking of Irwin Moon (Bultaco), who stayed ahead of Dick Welnbrandt (Bultaco) f or the well-deserved victory. Dennis Ralph (Bultaco) and Paul Kastraaides (Greeves) f in i shed third and f ourth. The Junior class Is attracting a lot of new riders as it gives them a chanc e to compete in a class wi th r iders of their own m erit, and if a r i der gets better, he earns enough points to transfer to the Senior class, thus gi vi ng all the Junior contestants a chanc e to mov e up as their abi lities i mpr ove .
