In two sections with all who made points In the first two transferring to the third round. Problem Time Greg Smlth(C-Z) had the third wrapped up when he crashed badly just past the tower before the drop-aU, toward the last part of the heat. This was tough luck for Greg because he was really going great, and It dropped him down to a 6th overall. Hockie (Ossa) was twice up ahead In his first two heats by the time the gang came off the line and hit the upper part of the course . He dropped It once In third place, went over the handlebars but " Litt l e Bear" kept running and he was able to get hack under power again quickly but In the third (and final) mota real disaster struck. First came a flat tire and then one lap later his spokes tore loose from the hub and put him out after a good showing of the Ossa's speed. It was rough luck for Willie. Kurt Lohmeyer won the class on his Bultaco and he'S becoming a "fixture" In the 250 Juniors at Saddleback. Just look up front and there's Kurt wearing his San Gabriel M.C. , colors sailIng around In first or at least In the top three. A few more runs and the 250 Seniors are going to have to l ook to tbelr laurels! Bob "Badger" Maynard (Yamaha) took the second and his Yamaha sure looks good all set up for moto-cross. There were onlY four (where were you guyS?) Open Entries with Ken Sparkman (Triumph) winning overall with two straight and first Junior Jim Bellach (Triumph) tak ing two seconds and first Junior wins . Added "local" note Is that the Sham. rocks had a very satisfactory day and ' wer e disappointed that no Checkers showed up even If the Shamrocks would have defeated them (end quote Shamrocks).
