It brought tile racers to the starting line who bad the 9th through 12th fastest qualifying times. Sonny . 'Then. we got to the Trophy Olsb, possibly an ant1cllmax of the previous race. 'Ibis event' brougbt out the four fastest beat times at the night: Tanner, O' Brien. Scbultz and Bruce Haserot. Schultz cannon-balled into a lead, which be maintained over 0' Brien all the way to the final line _ where be was very properly rewarded with a victory Idss from the Trophy Girl, lovely Carla Wiley at Hollywood. Three Big Ones 'Then, we reached the A, B, and C Main Events which were being run for a .total purse at $1455.00. In the " c" event , Jim Doron was strangling the whole field unt11 be got out at shape on the final lap, allowing Stu Morley to ge t arotmd bfm and gain the win. 'The ••B" Main went to Sonny Nutter. closely pursued by both Jim 'Ibomas and Chuck Jones. In the " A" Main Event. It was Jack 0 ' Brien all the way . to take the measure at Schultz. That did it! John loped over to Jim and within a few minutes the match was on again. So John went howling off the course, missed the jump completely and sbot down into the infield to catch up to Hunter who bad built up a little lead by then. John won it by maybe two bike lengths and they are going to bave at It again on their big bikes this coming saturday, but we betit won't be as much fun as this past one wasl Stein Sails Remember Jimmy Stein, the youngs ter who always went so well on a Husky in scrambles and moto-cross? He made the Perris scene too . fresb back from two months at the C- Z factory in Prague. C- Z took him on for training as team rider paying his expenses wb1le there and It sounds like Jim really bad a time. His tralning consisted of getting up at six a.m ., rUlU1ing tile mUe to tile factory where be would ride for several bours on one at the courses outside the factory limits. 'Then would come several hours of working on the bikes in tile shop so every nut and bolt was learned. He couldn't speak bigblj enough at bow kind tile big names were to him. Roger De Coster taught him the art at turning in' the air wbUe jumping and they took thIs young American UDder their wing to show him the ropes. J1nl's proudest moment came when before a crowd at 85.000 people be wa1kedoutbeb1nd the American flag wb1le the band played the Star Spangled Banner. says Jim. " I was so proud I could bave burst and I don·t think I could bave fallen off if I tried. I was out there riding for America!" He rode f1ve race wbUe there and we asked bow be did. " Well, I didn't think I did too well but I did stay up for over ball an hour a couple at times with the rest at the team but I did well enougb that they will bring me back next year for the World Championship rounds." We say, you did very well indeed Jim! 'The fact that C- Z atfered you such a nice contract proves It. 'They don't mess around and Jim didn't mess arotmd saturday night either.
