ELSINORE, cal•• Aug. 3 - The tremendous popularity of tbe little 100cc blkes
seems to be contagious as tile already
pudgy 100 Novice class gains weight at
Elsinore Raceway each week. saturday
night saw a veritable swarm at almost
ninety of tile little screamers, bringlng
tile total entries tor tile evening to well
over one-hundred and sixty. The tortyseven events went ott like clock-work
witll trophies given and racers on tile
road home around midnight.
Much to the other riders' joy. the seven
100 Novice heats and seven semis were
lnterspersed throughout the evening so
that no class had to walt very long between races. With this claSs whittled
down to the tastest twenty and then divided lnto two grouPs. the Mains got
underway. In the first. Troy McKee
hauled his Hodaka lntortirstplacebrass
tollowed by fiying Larry Bird on a
Yamaha.
The second Main also wenttoaHodaka
with S. Hyder aboard leading home L.
Quintard's Yamaha and J. Cook's Hodaka.
One at the fastest and most sanitary rigs
In this class was the black and white
Cemoto ridden by Larry Hardison. He
was bumped Into the weeds during one at
the starts and then , while really flying
to make uP lost positions, met Mr .
Crunch on the back straight and was out
tor the evening. With a little luck the
combination looks like a winner.
The2ClO Novice Matos were runaways
tor John Graver's Bultaco. SPorting tile
red and white striped jersey of the Dirt
Diggers, he won the class with little
trouble tram second place Geoff Mason's
Ossa and third place Gary RUey.
The 250 Novice Main saw Yamaha go
down In deteat for the first time In weeks
as Vic Hannan kicked his Kawa:saJcilntor
tirst ahead of Bochkay's Yamaha• .T.M.
Clancy took third astride a Montesa.
Smooth r iding Ed Walker waltzed ott
with tirst place honors in the 500 Novice
hassle on his Trlurnph desert sled . Paul
Henderson and Bob Dally, also on Triumphs , took second and third.
With super-swirt Tom Simpson now
riding with the Experts, the way was
clear tor the motor-moutlled announcer
to climb down out at his tree and w1n the
Open Novice bash on Moto polnts atter a
wheel-to-wheel thing with Ed Walker.
BUl Barth had the audacity to take third
on a Harley Sprint.

Troy McKee garnered his second trophy at the eve:l1ng by beating out DLle
