The track was In excellent shape - hard and fast- and tile _tiler was magnlflcent. Ron Hoppe of Edmonds, aboard a Norton 750, was the outstanding rider of the day, wlnnlng both his beats and the Expert Main. The tattle for second spot between Illve Grout, on a Harley-Illvidson, and Joe Debners, riding a BSA, was a spectacle to behold as tIley swapped places repeatedly but finally Grout captured second and IJehners had to settle for third place money. Fourth went to National Number 13, Bob Budschat, on his 350CC Ducat!. Triumph rider D1Je S!lvey took the Amateur Class Main Event, followed by Bob Flevez, on a Greeves. 'lblrd to tile checkered flag was Dick Waller (Triumph) and In fourth was MIke Sterlng on a new Royal Entleld. Perpetual winner Squire Tomasle, on his Suzuk!, was followed to tile flnlsh llne at a distance of approximately six Inches by John Bromley. who lost tile lead In the fifth lap when he slid a little wide 011 one corner. ThIrd and fourth went to Jim Cayou (Yamaha) and Gary Anderson, riding a Montesa. Baker Motorcycle Club, was extremely well organized and run with clock-like preclslon, as their events usually are. Time trials are at 7:00 p.m. (Results last week) The last event of the day was the balloon bust with Illve Carriker wlnnlng the 10Occ. Bernard Burdette and Al Neessheefer won the 250 and the Open respectively but I thlnk there was a little hankypanky here as they both got off their bikes and rolled around on the ground to bust their balloons. There was something besides dust In the alr at Colorado Springs, Colo. last May 19. It was the news of the Dusters M.C. non-speed field meet held on top of a pockmarket hill high above the rest of the city. Events began with observed trials with B111 Brokaw officiating. ThIs Is the second time for this . event to be held In our area. The trials portion of the meet consisted of four traps. The light bikes were the best performers In these events with Sonny Anderson and Sllm Dlerson walkIng away with honors on their Greeves In the 250cc class. In the second trap one contestant fai led to us e his front wheel brake and wound up In a clump of lowgrowing scrub oak. In the fourth trap the only woman contestant, Mrs. Annie Brokaw on her Yamaha, was the first to negotiate the toP. The first rider to try thls trap had his bike walk right out from under him. few sprinkles of rain. Al Nesshoefer was the overall high scorer for the day with nineteen points. In the stake race In the loocc class Jerry Gibbs on his Honda SUper 90 came out on top with a time of 13.1 whlle Sllm Dlerson had a time of 12.6 In the 250cc class and Al Nesshoefer had a time of 14.5 In the open. In the run and ride event he who had the least to pick up and put down had half his problems solved. The fleetest for the afternoon were Jerry Gibbs In the 100cc, Vincent Hamm In the 250cc, and Al Nessheefer In the open. In the slow race Mike Wlllet In the 100cc , B111 Brokaw In the 250cc and . (there's that name again) Al Nesshoefer In the Open walked of! with firsts. The . third event was a can transfer with Mike Wlllet In the lOOcc, B111 Brokaw In the 250cc and Arley Scott In the Open winning thls event. Next came kick the can with Jerry Gibbs In the 100cc, Vincent Hamm In the 250cc and Arley SCott In the Open kicklng faster than anybody else. The drag race was won by Mike Wlllet In the 10Occ, B111 Brokaw In the 250cc, and Lee Morris In the open, and the clover leaf was won by Dan Willey In the 10Occ, Sonny Anderson In the 25Occ, and Al Nesshoefer In the Open. Fun Time The next nine events were a stake race, a slow race, kick the can, can transfer, clover leaf, dragandstop,arunanddrag, a spin around drag, and a balloon bust.
