I would very much like to subscribe to your publication, would you please send me the subscription rates? As soon as received I will send you the necessary funds so we can get this transaction under way and I can start receiving my ·Cycle News.By the way, I would like to mention that "CYcle World- magazine sent your address upon my request. I am an inmate at the state prison and couldn't locate your address, so I wrote them. Between the two publications (yours and ·Cycle World-) I should be able to keep well up on the wonderful sport of motorcycling. Enthusiastically , ALAN W. ANDERSON On Friday, the 28th of July, the legislature of the state of California will adjourn until next January. Unless a miracle happens between now and the 28th, the motorcycle sport and industry in the Golden State will find itself hamstrung by a new set of regulations which on the surface appear to be reasonable efforts to make cycle riding safer, but actually underneath, are cunni ngly designed to discourage new riders from taking to two wheels. New riders will be required to obtain a car drivers license before they can even begin to learn how to operate a motorcycle. If this isn't a classic case of putting the cart before the horse, I'U eat my eyeshade. By the letter of the compulsory helmet law, you can be arrested for riding without a helmet in your own driveway! Unless you are content waiting for a miracle, you should get busy right now writing letters. sending telegrams and making your opposition to A.B. 978 known to your state senator. Assuming that your machine is legal, Quiet and not a chopper, perhaps your problem is caused by "style- of riding. A conspicuous rider may be safer on the road, but he stands out in the eyes of traffic patrols. If there's anything about your riding that would cause others to be frightened for their safety or yours, you'll probably get a "mickey-mouse ticket- just to slow you down. By all means plead not guilty if you are sure you aren't. With your drivers license at stake, plus higher insurance premiums, isn't it wortb a few days in court?
