HALF-MILER AT TULARE i~,.!~ IIonda c-z OC· Hwqvarna by Carol Sims Complete Service. Parts. JlAt. .:~.~n The Tulare County Fairgrounds, newly outfitted witb additional lights I and a lower inside rail for better rider visibility, was the scene of a spectac· ular program of llattrack events Saturday night April 29. Braving sprinkles and high winds, a chilly but enthusiastic crowd was treated to the sight of 186 professional riders in action - more than had ever appeared at the well-known Central California half·mile. In fact, there were no time trials due to the amount of entrants; heat race positions were drawn by lot. . 2422 E. Hl'~T1 (;TO:ol DRIVE IlL'AIITE. L\UFORNIA Toaophono 35'·454' Tulare has always beeu known as a • slidy· race track, and tun to ride. This time, under the direction of C & C Enterprises, it was also smooth and uniformly prepared. Upcoming events (which, incidentally, pay riders 40% of the gate receipts) are sure to be well attended, especially when the weather improves. Yamaha mounted, the Tulare rider had even the Experts paying attention ..s he swept tbe board - heat race, Trophy Dash and Main Event. And tbe crowd was more than a little impressed with tbe hometown product too. Oniy one accident marred the proceedings and it occurred when Novice Chal Dececco of Saratoga experienced a collapsed wbeel on tbe front straight· away. DesPite a bard tumble, he was conscious and protesting when taken to tIE bospital for observation. From.. the spectator's standpoint, the overall program could have been streamlined considerably by the hiring of two ambulances, since Dececco's accident brought a halt to all proceedings. And more coordination between officials could have speeded up the show in general. There were several unexPlainable de1a.Ys between races - factors important not only to fans but to riders who have anotber race the next day. But, with Tulare events now on a Ijlontbly basis, these problems should be ironed out shortly.
