One area where modern lubrication has it allover the old fashioned way is in the realm of chain oiling. In the olden days, some of us remember, we were cautioned to boil our rear drive chains in oil and kerosene on tbe kitcben stove. Suzuii Success S'OIJ The predecessor firm of Suzuki Motor Company was founded in 1909 by Michio Suzuki, under the name of Suzuki Loom Works. In 1920, the firm was reorganized into Suzuki Loom Manufacturing Company and capitalized at $1,389.00. A new plant was completed in 1939 in the suburbs of Hamamatsu. In 1954 the company name was changed to Suzuki Motor Company, following two years of plant transition and trial manufacture of a bicycle motor. In 1955, production of a first 125cc motorcycle ,and a 360cc two-stroke truck started up. In the following year, a 250cc motorcycle was added to the product line and capital increased to $1,389.000. Shunzo Suzuki succeeded the original founder as president of Suzuki Motor Company in 1957, and has continued to serve in that office up to the present. In 1958, the company tooled up for mass production of two-stroke motorcycles in the 50cc, 125cc and 250cc classes. Two years later, Suzuki participated in the Isle of Man Tourist Trophy Race for the first time and scored top ratings for all of its entries. Also in 1960, the company increased its cap ita 1 to $4,166,667. In 1961, Suzuki Motor COmPany completed a new plant in Toyokawa for the 'production of 360cc Suzulight trucks. Capital was increased to $8,333.333. In the same year the company's first overseas office was opened in London. England. In 1962. Suzuki Motor Company entered the international Grand Prix races for the first time and won the coveted Manufacturers' Championship. This performance was repeated in three consecutive years, and in 1963, Suzuki's racer, Mitsuo Ito won the Isle of Man TT race as the first Japanese winner in the 50cc class. Also in 1963, the company moved its London office to Brussels, Belgium, seat of the Conunon Market. During the same year, Suzuki established a technical center in its Hamamatsu industrial complex, and established U.S. suzuki Motor Corporation in California. Capital was increased to $13,055,556. The following year a Singapore office was opened to serve the SOuth East Asian market, a new main office was completed in Hamamatsu, and the company inaugurated its 4-mile seaside test course, largest in the Far East. To cop with skyrocketing export requirements, Suzuki Packing Company, Ltd., was established as a whollyowned subsidiary in 1965. During the same year, Suzuki Motor Company revolutionized two-stroke engine design with its Posi-Force Lubrication System which eliminates the need for mixing gas and oil. In October of 1966 the company moved their corporate headquarters to a new $1.3 million building in Santa Fe Springs, California, and are completing a comparable building in Cherryhill, New Jersey. Suzuki Motor Company conducts business in 60 countries through a network of 100 distributors and 15,000 dealers. .- ,-' .. , c- .'
