When poet Gertrude Stein said, -There's DO there tIlere,- site was
talking about Oakland and the East Bay, of coarse.
But then, 1 doubt if Gertie was much of a IBOtorcyclist, becl8se
for us there is definitely a there, there!
lu an age when it seems every tank ton in the country is bIISily
enacting ever more restrictive ordinances, it is a pleasure iadeetl to
encounter the East Bay Recreational Park District's Motorcycle a.,
sixty-seven acres of hilly, broslty ground for the exclusive ase of
motorcyclists - what a thrill it was when I saw a patrolman chase a
jeep out of the area; it sure was a switch!
The Motorcycle Run (mon locally as -The Cycle Park-) C08wns oodles of trails, a not-too-steep hill, and one of the nicest views
in the area. It is open seven days a week fro.. 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. to
motorcyclists, without restrictions.
The Motorcycle Run is popular - so popular that popularity itself
has become an acute problem to the Park District.
Located as it is very Dear the road, the parkiag problems at tile
Motorcycle Run waxes acute on week-ends, DOt only bec&llse tile
lion's share of the bikes are hauled there, and tow vehicles ave to
be parked while their oners are riding, bat also becuse tIlere is a
large segment of the Sunday-drive public who like DOlhiag better tIlu
