Also, the lads insist on doing the Mike Hallwood act up and down
Redwood Road, resulting in about one fatality every six months or so.
All that notwithstanding, the Park People don't really want to
tiscontinae the Motorcycle Rnn, but they are actively searching for a
place to transplant it where the problems can be minimized and where
the noise of the Jrikes won't disturb the picnickers.
To reach the Motorcycle Run from Oakland:
Go East toward the hills oil 35th Avenue into Redwood Road.
Continue on past Skyline Drive for 4.6 miles. The Cycle Park is on
the lefL Some additional parking space can usually be found about
thre&-tenths of a mile before the Run, on the right. A sign there says,
a San Leandro Gate. •
Redwood Road above Skyline Drive is two-lane black-top, treeshaded, with lots of curves and ideal for motorcyclists. About 1.7
IIiles above Skyline there are riding stables, and extreme caution is
advised - it would be no fun whatsoever to stick one's helmet into
the exhaust system of an oat-burner!
ADd Redwood Road is popular with sports-car buffs, too. The last
De up there I encountered a red TR-4 in a beautiful 4-wheel drift
taking up almost the whole road - luckily I saw him coming and took
the ditch.
