Mashburn made it look easy, winning the 100cc troph.y dash on his very quick Honda, even though Steve SCott was in hot pursuit on his Suzuki during the entire 4 laps. Keith broke out in the beginning and never lost lLis front running position. The 250cc event was Quite another story. Off the line Ray McCarty on his Husqvarna going into turn 2 was running in third place. The two front leaders went wide on a sharp left hander and the Husqvarna with its tremendous low end torque was able to slip into the lead going across the jump. steve Scott had passed several' riders and moved into second place tFying fervently to catch Ray during the remaining three laps of the trophy dash but just couldn't reach the Husqvarna. The 100cc main event was a wild scramble in Turn 1 and Turn 2. with 14 machines on the line. Coming across the jump on Turn 1 was Keith Mashburn out in front. In hot pursuit was Tom Sherman on ,a Honda. Third and 4th places, running neck and neck, were Marty Endless and Paul Wilde, and in fifth place was Steve Scott. On lap 5 of the 100cc 15 lap main eve nt, Wilde fe II coming out of the right hander on Turn 3 leading to the jump, moving Marty into uncontended 3rd spot and Steve Scott into 4th. On the 6th lap while leading. Mashburn developed engine trouble and retired, moving Sherman into first spot. On the following lap,Steve Scott passed the three leaders going into Turn I, a fast left hander. moving into first spot where he remained through the rest of the five laps. The 250cc main event also was a wild start. with 14 machines on the line for this 15 lap main event. After a few laps. the event was pretty much Steve Scott's. In the first several laps. riders were bunched together. and there was a considerable amount of passing and ganging up. A top contender in this eve.nt, Ray McCarty, on his Husqvarna. got jammed back in traffic and was unable to do anything better than fifth. Fourth place went to Chuck Saxton on a Honda. Chuck has really been coming on strong in the 250cc class and does quite well handling his big Honda on these tight short courses. Third place went to Larry Preston 00 his 175cc Ossa. This was Larry's last event for the A.C.A. He's going into the Army on Tuesday, september 14th. Second place went to Paul Coberly on a Bultaco and Nbr. I to Flying Steve SCott. also on a Bultaco. Steve has the uncanny ability of making the TT look like a Sunday stroll. Sixth spot went to Keith Mashburn on his Montesa. Keith had been ridlng up in the front real strong but had some trouble in several of the corners and was unable to regain his position. The next ACA TT event will be under the lights on Saturday night, September 24th. Pit gates open at 6:00 p.m., practice at 7 :00 p.m., first event at 8:00 p.m. (Results on page 16) For your new ,~., ~ YIMI,HI ~ HARRY FOSTER MOTORCYCLES 10425 SO.
