Chuck's bike was running real strong in fact he led the entire field of bikes, including all the 4Q-inchers. This is not an uncommon thing in desert racing where it sometimes gets very rough and the small, bettel-handling bike can come out on top. But if there was any appreciable straight the big-bores would catch up. In this race the Husky did not lose an inch of ground on the straightaways• Two Hi-Boots riders took a taste of their own medicine in the 500 Expert class but came through in the brass. Don Wood and his smooth runninlt Honda took first place with George Admire taking second, also on a 350 Honda mount. S. Diaz and BSA worked together to take a dusty third. "vice class. Ken Cox led the rather wild Novices through the grueling 40 laps to take home first place brass. Ken was Triumph-mounted as were second and third place men J. Payne and B. Burns. Ken led the Open Novice class through many spills without faltering. Open-Expert class found Jim Camaret leading to :~e finish on his tired Triumph. Mr. Camaret was led by number 48 throughout :1 large number of laps but with Mr. 48's engine blowing on the stretch it was then J. Camaret all the way. Dick Vick managed a smooth second on the rough course. Dick had a first last week at Encinitas but couldn't find the groove (there wasn't one!) at Rosadta. L. Baker battled to third on his BSA. Although there were no serious crashes in the races that weekend there were some at other times. A man and his son-in-law had a head on crash on the beach and ended up with one going to san.Diego for emergency surgery. The overall weekend was fair, but the course and weather were not to the riderlliking. Many liked the course last year much better and questioned the officials about the change of area. The reason for the switch was that there was a new Delagado in Rosarita and he said, -no racing in Rosatita". The Hi-Boots did not like the switch any more than the riders. In fact the cluh had to pay $350 for rental of the land for the weekend plus a $50 clean-up fee. Despite all these circumstances the events were held and most managed to have fun on their bikes or celebrating. Hi-Boots M.C. sorrowfully announced that t his looks to he the last -Grand Prix by the sea" for some years due to land space problems and such. Through all this the Hi-Boots deserve to be congratulated for a wellorganized event despite the odds. The event was by no means a failure, but it lacked the old flair it used to have. We sincerely hope that this great annual race will not become a thing of the past and hope that matters can be ironed out. Thanks to the Hi-Boots M.C. of san Diego, California for another Mexican holiday on two wheels. •
