Aug. 6-It appears that Saturday 8-6-66 was Red Bluff, Calif. n i g h t at Cycleland Speedway. Riders from that comunity captured two of the night's racing events. The 90cc class was led from the start to the finish by Terry Hughes of Red Bluff, Calif. on a Honda. It appears the handicappers in this event simply did not get through traffic fast enough to cat c h Mr. Hughes. Second, was Ray Vatney of North Highland. Calif. on a Mota Beta. Third. was Paul Minor from Sacramento. Calif. on a Honda. The 175cc class was captured by Gary Willis, Sacramento. Calif. on a Bultaco; followed by Bob Vaughan, Oroville, Calif. on a Honda, and by Bob Milligan Red Bluff, Calif. on a Bultaco. I might add that Mr. Milligan is racing with a broken foot, and did not put his foot down in the. corners. John Dotson Rio Vista, Calif. on his Bultaco won the 200cc class on the last lap, finally overtaking Dennis Chandler of Central Valley, Calif. on his BuUaco. Third, was Bill Snodgrass of Oroville, Calif. on another Bulta-co. George McCarty, Red Bluff, Calif. on his Honda was able to get through traffic fast from his handicap posi- the 250cc event. second. was Bill Saltzman of Reno, Nevada on a Bultaco. Third. was Hayes Williams Reno, Nevada on a Honda. The 60cc class was won by Harley Eads of Oroville, Calif. on a Yamaha followed by David Kline of Reno, Nevada on his potent Honda and Mike Rockwell of Oroville, Calif. on yet another Honda. . Several riders on that night appeared to have s t ret c h e d their frames. One rider was protested and advised;.o shrink the frame back to the original size. No dOUbt everyone will be on watch for further stretched frames the night of 8-13-66 when the next races are scheduled. BUNNIES ANNOUNCE BUCO RETURN TO WEST A record turn-out of more than 560 persons, including leading representatives of the motorcycle industry, members of the motorcycle trade and consumer press, automotive editors and other enthusiasts attended two dinners this week at the Los Angeles and San Francisco Playboy Clubs. Occasion was the formal announcement of the opening of the American Safety Equipment Corporation's new Buco division plant in Fresno, devoted to the manufacture of safety helmets. accessories BIId other safety equipment for motorcycling. Guest speaker at both dinners was Professor Lawrence M. Patrick, chai... man of the Impact Su~Committee of the American Standards Associatioo, and bead of the Biomechanics Research Center at Wayne State University. Professor Patrick showed a documentary film demonstrating safety testing tecbniques on helmets. He also outlined new safety regulations, and their application to road and sport motorcycling. John Thompson, Sales Promotion Director for Buco explained how the new Fresno plant installation would benefit the entire westcoast by insuring rapid delivery, aod dependable service. Tom Johnson, Vice President in charge of Sales for the American Safety Equipment Co. told how mushrooming volume had implemented many other plant acquisitions, servicing the east and midwest, as well as the west coast. Buco's withdrawal from its west coast outlet last year was a strategic retreat, Johnson explained. Now the company intends to satisfy tbe tremendous demands for helmets, saddlebags and accessories in the West. In attendance at both banquets were American Safety EquIpment Corporation President Ken Krasnow from New York; J.M. Hannan, President of the American Safety Equipment Corporation of Michi gao; R.K. Ro binson, Vice President heading the new Buco-Fresno operation; David Freeland, Sales Manager; Terre Insco, Sales Service Manager; Russ Clayton, California Sales Representative, along with the entire staff of the Buca-Fresno plant. CALIFORNIA Pbotos and story by Wanen Walker Grants Pass, OTegon- Sixteen-yearold racer Mark Williams won the 6500c A Main and took second in the 250 A Main Event at the Oregon State TT Championships on August 6th as 5000 screaming fans cheered him on to victory. Veteran Duane Francisco also basked in the crowd's wild approval as he took the 250cc A Main and topped all other classes in the Sweepstakes. Although these men dominated the night's racing they managed to share a few of the honors with Grants Pass hometowner Gene Schnieder for the 100cc A Main and with Elton Law of Eureka. Calif. taking the 500cc win. A total of 186 riders from Oregon. Washington and California competed in this, the Fifth Annual Championship Race held at the Grants Pass Track.
