Slauson and SamaFe Springs Rd. toDenny's Coffee Shop on Imperial Highway. A Centaur Checker .as waiting in the parking lot with directions for getting to the 2nd check point. Alter another cup of coffee (coffee and donuts were served at tbe start) the riders turned west on Imperial Highway and then North on Lakewood to Valley Blvd. in Rosemead. Striking east to Pomona, they turned south to Chino and then east again to Woodcrest. Here the riders became confused. The route card specified a"feW-miles to the 3rd check. The actual distance was nearer 20, resulting in most riders back-tracking, looking for a checkpoint tbey hadn't come to yet.
