Russ took the lead in the 100cc main event and was not particularly challenged throughout the entire event. The 250cc trophy dash was won hy Rick Woods on a Harley-Dav idson. Rick was also able to pick UP first place in the 250cc A main event , only this time he was on a Ducati. Second place went to Johnny Balaam on a Harley- Davidson Sprint. The B main event was won bY #1 Gordon Kuhule on a Bultaco. T his is Gordon's first time out and he s eeme d to do quit e well. second place was won bY Pat Gosch on a. Suzuki. Pa t was out riding the new Suzuki 250cc flat tracker. T he machine seemed to have a slight handling problem caused bY the treme ndous horsepowe r it develope d. When coming out of the co rne rs into the s tra l ghtaway , P at ha d a diffi cul t time holding the front wheel down. The ma chine literally became airborne in the front and on a short course it is very difficult to go Into the next corner if the wheel is off the ground. We have been assure d by SUzuki the hand ling proble m will be c orrected and observe rs feel that this mac hine is a potential winner. Number 89 , Rus s Robinson on a Ya maha, gave Rick fits throughout the e nti re event,passing him several ti mes and leading unt il the last la p when Ric k wa s able to get on the Inside , thu s nipping Rus s out of a firs t pla c e. Ri ck did not have It so good in the A main event with the return of steve Scott carrying plate #1 riding his Bul ta co. Steve won the 250cc A main event . but not as easily as he was able to do last year in several of the main events. P us hi ng hard was Mike Spitzer on a Har leyDavidson Sprint , followed closely bY Lee Stumpenhause on his Greeves. Rick was not able to do better than 4th in the A main. The B main went to Jim Connolly on a Montesa, followed bY Mike Tillman on a Honda. Mike is just returning to us from a tour in the service. Mike was one of the leading contenders last year and is just getting back into shape. The 50cc main event was won bY Paul Wilde on a Yamaha, sporting a Tohatsu frame , followed by Mike Tillman on a Honda and third place went to Mike Smith on a Tohatsu.
