He won both th e T rophY Dash and t he Main on hi s Yamaha with Gary Calkin s second. also on a Yamaha. P oi nt leade r Ri ck W oods wound up fourth. Alt hough the tur n-out was not a s l arge as expected . it was a n exciting night . with quite an arr ay of equipment on hand . St eve Hurd (M hless) and Bob Grauer (Velocette) atc were getti ng ar ound real good and s eemed to be havi ng a baH. Jim Dora n. on th e W Cooley JAP . provi ded the es s how for the eveni ng with his power-on whe eli es and full lock s li de s. T he s pectators enjoye d thems e lves and the rid ers' rea ctions were eve ryt hing from exhil aration to amazeme nt that a SOO coul d be s o easily handled on a short tra ck . . It was the unan imous opinion 0 1 the riders that the track s hould ha ve a deeper cushion on it, and if enough Interest can be gene rated perhap s anot her pra cti c e session will be held helore a race s che dule is ac tually set up. . T he rules are bas i cal ly simp le. beSide s the usual short track safety rules: no brake s. no down-shifting . full leat hers . and the engines must be of single-cylinder SOOcc capacity Fo r racin g. but not ne ce ssar ily for pr~ctice , they mus t have the rear whe el block ed ri gid, a nd no springers will be allowed.
