And the Hilltoppers of Signal Hill did just that when they introduce d S. Cal. enthusiasts to th eir new Castaic scrambles track and club grounds. The fun began at 10 a.m, on the Hopetown-style course with over a hundred entrants and a large crowd of spectators. Field meet games were scored on a clubteam points system , and included ' the old favorites , !!olf hall pick-ups, dizzy races. three-legged. slow and passenger pick-up races. If you thought that everyth ing had come to a watery end we are happy to report that all concerned had a splendid day out, The threatened rain held off nicely. The rout e ran from Chubbuck Motors. Pasadena. to S. San Gahriel with a circular tour via the Freeway to Ventura, and thence home again. Th e pie-eating and egg-throwing contests proved hilariously popul ar . Seven teen -year-old Jack Byrd, the popular assistan t on the CYCLE NEWS staff, particularly enjoyed the day's outing. He carried home the award for the youn gest rider holding a AMA card . ( Results on Page 10 ) Pho... by C••• lo rtlett (Photos on Page 5 ) SUZUKI TO ENTER AMA COMPETITION IN 1966 Suzuki vice president Jack McCormack informed CYCLE NE WS this week that U.S. Suzuki will ent er a five-rider team at Daytona this year. Additional plans call for Suzuki also to enter additional AMA lightweight 250cc road races that are on the na tional calendar for 1966. The five ride rs, plus one novice, have already been selected for the Daytona event. McCormack also stated that the official Suzuki Racing Team will enter the two AMA events slated for Carlsbad Raceway on Jan . 16th and Feb. 20th . Th e two Carlsbad events will be used for final shakedowns on the five 250cc X-6 models that will run at Daytona on March 14th in the annual lightweight 100 mile ev ent. All five riders on the newl y formed factory team are exper t-classed riders. Th eir names will be released to CYCLE NEWS in the coming weeks. The official colors for the tearn will be the same as used by the Suzuki team tha t races the Grand Prix circuit in Europe on the world championship events. The riders will all be clad in blu e and wh ite leathers along with blue and whit e helmets. Australian pursuers get rig ht down to business in the d.y. h. iri... event.
