VOLUME 57 ISSUE 6 FEBRUARY 11, 2020 P57 for Plessinger to go down and hand the third spot to Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV- MC KTM). But with Plessinger going down, the gap back to Baggett in third was sizeable, and Webb had about 15 minutes left in the race to try and figure out where to make up time on Cianciarulo and then where to make the pass. Around halfway through the race, Webb began to reel in Cianciarulo, having found a solid line jumping through the two consecutive sets of whoops, and then he made a couple pass attempts, with Cianciarulo thwarting his efforts. But with ap- MILITARY APPRECIATION As usual, San Diego featured a Mili- tary Appreciation theme, with bikes and riders donning special graph- ics and gear to show their support. The Honda HRC team certainly got into the spirit. It's graphic sponsor Throttle Jockey created individual custom schemes that honored two different branches of the military and coordinated with Brayton's and Roczen's gear. Roczen's red, white and yellow livery paid homage to the United States Navy, while Brayton's black and forest green showed respect to the Army. FORKNER WEIGHS IN Austin Forkner weighed in on the boo- birds that have been hounding Dylan Ferrandis by addressing Ferrandis's supposed "aggressive racing." For- kner, who has lost the last two races to Ferrandis after aggressive passes Ferrandis put on Forkner, said, "When you're separated by hundredths of a second, and each of us have our fast parts on the track, I mean, what's he going to do? Follow me?!" Forkner said. "If you have this much [holds up his hand to show about two inches between his thumb and forefinger], you've got to take it! That's what I did with [Michael] Mosiman, when I went past him in the main; I jumped to the inside, and I was like, 'I don't know if I'm going to make this pass, but I've got to try!' He [Ferrandis] was behind me, and I was like, 'I've got to try to make something happen!' It's racing. If you guys are close, then you've got to throw it in sometimes." OLDENBURG UPDATE Penrite Honda's Mitchell Oldenburg was improving week-by-week on his new machines and was battling it out just outside the top five in the 2020 250SX West points standings, but he missed the San Diego Supercross after a tipover during the week left him with a partially torn ACL and torn meniscus in his knee. As of now, his plan is to rehab the knee during the West series hiatus and be ready to get back to racing by round seven of the 10-round series in Seattle, March 28. Then, after the end of the series, he'll likely need surgery. BLOSS UPDATE Cycle Trader/Rock River Yamaha's Benny Bloss was knocked out in practice at the Glendale Supercross a couple weeks ago and was put into concussion protocol, but he passed his tests and was back on the track in San Diego, where he won his LCQ and finished 17th in the 450SX main event. BOGLE UPDATE Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM's Jus- tin Bogle was also knocked out in the first turn at the Glendale Supercross a couple weeks ago and has been in concussion protocol ever since. Bogle's crash happened at very high speed and his recovery was always expected to take longer than Bloss', so there's no timeline set on Bogle's return just yet. MCANICAL Monster Energy/Pro Circuit Kawa- saki's Cameron McAdoo was having a solid main event in San Diego, run- ning fifth, when his KX250 suffered an undisclosed mechanical failure and put him out of the race. "Things like tonight just happen sometimes in racing; it's out of anyone's control and you just have to roll with the punches," he said. "[However], we Briefly...
