KYMCO STUNS WITH ELECTRIC
SUPERBIKE
O
ne of the more curious bike
intros that happened at EICMA
last week was the news Taiwan-
ese manufacturer Kymco, more
noted for selling vast amounts of
scooters, has been developing an
electric superbike.
Dubbed the Kymco SuperNEX,
this prototype is their first foray
into the electric two-wheel space
and although details released are
sketchy at best, what we do know
is the SuperNex is an electric motor
oddly paired to a six-speed gearbox
with a top speed of around 155
mph. The prototype you see here
comes with some nice running
goods, with Ohlins and Brembo
adorned at the front, and Kymco
says you'll also get launch, wheelie,
traction and rear wheel lift control,
plus multiple riding modes.
Oddly, Kymco says the sound
of the electric motor will be "en-
hanced," so whether that's a
speaker played back at the rider
or not, we're not sure. Kymco was
also very sketchy on actual details
of the motor's capacity and, very
importantly, the range and charge
time.
The motorcycle shown at EICMA
didn't run, however. It's interesting
to see what is a huge manufacturer
in its own right look not just at sport
bikes but electric ones. Watch this
space. CN
MARQUEZ'S HOMECOMING
2
018 MotoGP World Champion Marc
Marquez hosted one of his now famous
homecoming parties in Cervera, Spain, to
celebrate his world championship win.
The 25-year-old, who still lives in his
home town of Cevera, clinched this year's
MotoGP World Championship with a win
at the Japanese MotoGP, marking the sev-
enth time he has become world champion,
having won five of the last six MotoGP
seasons, as well as the 2010 125cc title
and the 2012 Moto2 championship. CN
Just a prototype at this stage, but
Kymco's SuperNEX electric superbike
is indeed an interesting offering from
the Taiwanese giant.
