ANDERSON WINS AUS-X OPEN
J
ason Anderson (Rockstar
Energy Husqvarna) took the
win at the 2018 AUS-X Open in
Sydney, Australia, November 10.
In the three-race format inside
the Qudos Band Arena, the 2018
AMA Monster Energy Supercross
Champion won all three of them
to secure the overall win. He got
out in front early in the first race,
and then pulled away for the win.
Justin Brayton (Honda) ended
up finishing second and Dean
Wilson (Husqvarna) third.
In the second race, Anderson
battled Wilson for much of the
race before breaking free and
taking win number two on the
night. Wilson ended up third in
the race, with Dan Reardon (Ya-
maha) taking second.
Anderson dominated the third
and final race by taking the hole-
shot and riding off with the win
and the overall victory.
Wilson took second in the race
and second overall.
Reardon, third in the final
moto, ended up third overall after
going 4-2-3.
Fourth overall went to Brayton
(2-6-5).
Aussie Chad Reed competed
and finished out the night fifth
overall with 7-4-6 placings.
"Getting a win here in Sydney
is exactly what I wanted," Ander-
son said. "I've been training hard
and it has started paying off. The
fans here at the AUS-X Open are
chill and it made for a good night
of racing. I always look forward
to being in Sydney and hope to
be back in the years to come."
Ryan Villopoto who was
scheduled to compete, withdrew
following the recent death of his
father, Dan.
Villopoto wrote on Instagram:
I just want to share a note with
the @sxopensupercross fans to
sincerely apologize, as I will not
be there today. As you all know
the last week has been incred-
ibly difficult on myself and my
family. I was super excited to
race in Sydney and have been
working hard to be in the best
shape I've been in years. I really
wanted to race down there, but
with all that happened as well
as an unforeseen issue, I have
to remain home with my fam-
ily. I realize a lot of people put
tons of work into helping me
get there and to make it super
special therefore I deeply want
to express my appreciation. I
promise to make it up to every-
one Down Under. Thank you for
all your ongoing support. See
you soon.
