ROUND 7/JULY 16, 2011
SPRING CREEK MOTOCROSS PARK/MILLVILLE, MINNESOTA

LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIP
Dungey chased down and passed Ryan Villopoto (2) for the overall win.
move pushed Villopoto wide into soft
dirt and he crashed out of a possible
overall win.
But by far the biggest news coming
out of muggy Minnesota will forever
be known as the Millville Miracle.
That's all you can call it when a rider
loses control of his bike on the face
of a huge jump, flies 30 feet high in
the air, backwards and bikeless, arms
and legs flailing, lands maybe 50 feet
down the track in one of the worst
crashes in AMA Motocross history
and still manages to pick himself off
the ground and keep racing. That's
what happened to Chad Reed, and
the outpouring of emotions by the
fans seeing the rugged Aussie survive
what looked to be a season-ending,
perhaps career ending crash, was a
scene of legend. For two laps after
his second-moto crash, Reed got a
roaring ovation from the 20,000-plus

on hand. Shirts were waving, horns
were blasting and fans cheered to
the top of their lungs. Even the mechanics of Reed's competitors waved
encouragement in unison as he circulated way back in last place upon
getting back on the track. It was an
epic moment in the history of the series that will be talked about for years.
So it's understandable that Dungey's win over Villopoto and the comeback kid Trey Canard in third was
simply icing on the cake on a most
memorable day at Millville.
Almost overlooked in the excitement is the fact that the championship chase tightened up after Reed's
mishap. So much so in fact that only
seven points separates the top three
and now it's anyone's guess as to
who will claim the crown at the end of
the 2011 campaign.
