VOL. 55 ISSUE 39 OCTOBER 2, 2018 P39
Rea's latest winning ram-
page was out of the top drawer
again, and gave him 14 race
victories so far in 2018. Four
double wins in a row since
Laguna Seca, too.
His second Magny Cours
race, unlike his near start-
to-finish ease away from the
front row in race one, was the
tougher. He found getting to
the front more difficult from
ninth place than second place
on the grid. It is all relative, as
he still won by 1.804 seconds
on Sunday.
His clever race-one champi-
onship celebrations, all refer-
enced to his four consecutive
wins, worked flawlessly, just
like Rea's latest title defense
had. Almost flawlessly, in fair-
ness, except for an overheated
tire in Australia (he was still
fifth) a chassis tech issue in
Thailand (fourth) and then a
collision, crash and no score
with his teammate Tom Sykes
in Brno. Nineteen podiums
from 22 races so far in 2018.
Carl Fogarty has also won
four WorldSBK Champion-
ships, just not consecutively
like Rea. And with 68 race
wins to Fogarty's 59, there can
be no argument about who is
the GOAT now.
For Rea, race two was icing
on the cake, as he looks to
overhaul his own record points
score of 556 in one year before
season end. With 100 points up
(Above) Jules Cluzel kept the
WorldSSP title alive with a home
win. (Left) Jonathan Rea was once
again on a steamroller of a ride,
crushing all before him to claim
another world title.
