Timekeeping in paradise. We covered the Mauna Kea 200 Enduro
held on the Big Island of Hawaii, and pictured on the cover was
local favorite Steve Zoll, but it was Honolulu city councilman
John DeSoto who took the win… Steve Morehead led a Harley-
Davidson sweep at the Louisville Half Mile… Rick Johnson won
the 250cc National MX in San Antonio, but Jeff Ward wrapped
up the title… Kevin Schwantz won the 500cc German GP at
Nurburgring… Randy Hawkins won the Little Burr
National Enduro in Ohio.
World Superbike from Nurburgring took center stage on the cover
of Cycle News 20 years ago. Aaron Slight and Colin Edwards
were pictured in the rain… We showed you some of the latest (1999)
street and dirt bikes from Honda… We tested the Husqvarna
WR125 and Kawasaki KX250… Mike Lafferty won the combined
ISDE Qualifier and AMA National at the Little Burr in Ohio… Marc
Colomer took his first win of the 1998 World Championship Trials
Series in the Czech Republic.
