LOOKING BACK
Scrambles racing from Fallon, Nevada, was
highlighted on the cover of Cycle News 50
years ago. S. Shaff and Bob Clark were
pictured battling it out for the win in the 650cc
class… We reviewed the Dick Clark-produced
motorcycle outlaw movie "The Savage Seven,"
staring Adam Roark. We weren't impressed with
this movie that again depicted motorcyclists in
a negative light… Ohio's Ronnie Hall defeated
home favorite Bart Markel at the Livonia
5-Mile National… J.N. Roberts won again in
the Mojave Desert, this time topping the San
Bernardino M.C. European Scrambles.
We showed an artsy Steve Eklund in action on the cover 40 years
ago, which coincided with our coverage of the Camel Pro National from
Harrington. Jay Springsteen took the win… We reported that Team
Suzuki road racer Pat Hennen had suffered a head injury in a crash at
the Isle of Man TT. Although he recovered, Hennen's racing career had
come to a premature end… Tommy Croft won the 500cc class at the
AMA National Motocross at Sears Point… The Scott Wallingsford/Scot
Harden duo won the Baja 500.
