AFT SINGLES TT
Kicking off the weekend on Satur-
day was the AFT Singles TT race at
the fairgrounds' Rodeo Arena. Sixty
riders signed up for the AFT portion
of the event, which also featured
AMA All Star racing as well.
The 15-lap main event got off
to a nasty start as current points
leader Brandon Price (Parkinson
Brothers Racing/DPC Racing
Honda CRF450R) got tangled up
landing off the jump on the first
lap. The race was immediately red
flagged as a result of the large pile
Newton ended up fourth, Lewis
finished out the day in fifth, and
Whale was gunning for a top-five
finish as well before a couple of
crashes put him out of the race.
MAKING THE
MOST OF IT
Having already announced
his retirement after this year,
Kenny Coolbeth is making the
most of his last season. "I want
podiums. I just want to keep
picking away and having fun,"
said Coolbeth. "I am enjoying
the people that I'm around. I just
want to make it good on the last
hoorah." As for his race-long
battle with Davis Fisher, Cool-
beth said, "It's good to see the
young talent. Davis is a good
kid and wants to win. He knows
how to race, but this stuff is a
little different. It's cool to see the
up-and-comers riding with us for
the future."
GOING FLAT
Another up-and-comer, Kevin
Stollings (Roof Systems, Indian
Scout FTR750) made the most
of a provisional Twins entry.
Stollings was inside the top 10
when a flat tire ended his race
on lap 22. He was still credited
with an 11th-place finish.
