Henry Wiles (Wilco Racing/Willy Built, Indian Scout
FTR750) and Davis Fisher (Double D Performance/Bob
Lanphere/Richie Morris Racing, Indian Scout FTR750)
held fourth and fifth, while Indian Motorcycle/Allstate
Motorcycle Insurance, Indian Scout FTR750 teammates
Bryan Smith and Brad Baker were in sixth and seventh,
respectively.
The smooth slick racetrack had developed a tight and
very unforgiving groove and the slightest mistake would,
at best, cost several positions.
Cose was suddenly having a hard time keeping pace
and Bryan Smith slipped into third. After a few laps it
was obvious Smith was closing on the leaders, despite
having no drafting partners. The leaders were playing
somewhat of a cat-and-mouse game as Smith inched
closer and closer.
Baker took over fourth and pulled away from Cose,
Wiles and Fisher, who were in a tight battle for what was
now fifth place. There were several very good races go-
ing on in the pack, but all eyes were on the leaders as
the large crowd was anticipating a classic "mile finish."
