Trystan got back by me. Then about halfway through the last lap, I just went for it with every- thing I had. "If it [had gone] another lap, these guys would've blown my doors off!" Though somewhat disap- pointed at finishing second after leading most of the way, the result was welcome after a couple rounds of disappointment for round-one winner Gerston and his Motul/FMF/Klim-backed 390 RR. "I was going pretty much as fast as I could," he admitted. "I was trying to get away from these guys, but man, it's harder than what it sounds like because, re- ally, everybody was going as fast as they could. That was a three- hour, 24-minute race and I was going as fast as I could the whole time—fully pinned! [On the last lap], Bolin went flying by me on a [fire] road like I was standing still! I was pinned; I couldn't believe it! "I really wanted that W, but coming off the last couple rounds, to be back up on the box in a good spot, I'll take it." Hart felt the same way after running a close second for much of the way aboard his Kenda/ Shorai/O'Neal Racing-sponsored FX 350 before ultimately finishing third. "That was a tight race for three hours—probably the tightest race I've ever had!" he declared. "Right near the end, Max was just in front of me and my visor broke and the wind was pulling it back so I couldn't really see that well. "I was trying my hardest, but I couldn't close in. It's a little frustrating, but it's all good; it's good to be on the podium." (Hart is the only rider to podium all five rounds so far.) Six Five O Racing GasGas rider Travis Coy hurt his back last week and wasn't sure he'd even be able to race at Shasta, but after a season-best fourth place, he was glad he lined up. J.T.
