VOL. 55 ISSUE 14 APRIL 10, 2018 P87 BEACHED Road racer JD Beach (Team95 G&G Racing, Yamaha FZ-07) posted the fastest qualifying time on Saturday, but as conditions changed, Beach fell off the pace. Eventually a flat tire in his semi ended what may be his last venture into dirt track in 2018. PILING ON THE WINS Jared Mees has now won 12 of the last 20 races in the American Flat Track Twins Championship and has finished on the podium in 19 of the last 20 rac- es. Mees looks to keep the domination going. "The older you get the tougher it is on the race track, mentally," said Mees. "The physical part today was so small; it wasn't enough to get a heart rate up. Some tracks are more physi- cal than they are mental. Some tracks are more mental than they are physical. This one was mentally tough, tedious and technical." YARD SALE The second AFT Singles semi saw a scary first-lap crash that involved half the field. Polesitter Ryan Wells spun down exiting turn two on the opening lap, collecting most of the field with him. By the time it was over bikes and bodies were scattered the length of the back straight. Cameron Smith, Jeremy Werner and Beau Thompson failed to return for the restart and Cory Texter decided after running a practice lap that he would sit out the rest of the day also.
