IN THE WIND P36 HERLINGS, PRADO TEAR IT UP AT TRENTINO MXGP R ed Bull KTM's Jeffrey Herlings and Jorge Prado came away with the overall wins in the MXGP and MX2 classes, respectively, at the Grand Prix of Trentino in Pietramurata, Italy, April 7. Herlings swept both MXGP motos, while Prado traded moto wins with Ameri- can Thomas Covington (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) Herlings' fifth race win of the season in the first moto came a little easier than usual, as his chief rival (and teammate) Antonio Cairoli suffered a bad start and had to fight his way up through the back while Herlings sailed comfortably up front. Cairoli came across the finish line to card fourth behind winner Herlings, runner-up Clement De- salle (Monster Energy Kawasaki), and third-place Romain Febvre (Monster Energy Yamaha). Tim Gajser (Honda) was fifth. It was back to normal in the sec- ond moto with Cairoli nabbing his sixth holeshot of the year; unfortu- nately for the Italian, Herlings also got a good start and was applying early pressure. On lap three, Herlings snuck past Cairoli for the lead and never looked back. Herlings went on to take the win ahead of Cairoli, De- salle, Glenn Coldenhoff (Red Bull KTM) and Gautier Paulin (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna). Herlings took the overall victory with a 1-1 and Cairoli settled for third overall with a 4-2. For the first time in the young sea- son, someone finished in between the Red Bull KTM teammates in the overall category, with Desalle taking second overall with a 2-3. Fourth overall went to Febvre (3- 7), and Coldenhoff rounded out the top five overall with a 7-4. After four of 20 rounds, Herlings is alone at the top of the leader- board with 191 points; Cairoli is 10 points back in second. Desalle is third but already 36 points behind Cairoli. Febvre is fourth, 10 points be- hind Desalle. In MX2, Spain's Jorge Prado broke through for his first win of the season with 1-2 moto finishes. He came within a few turns of winning both motos, but Thomas Covington made a surprise pass on him to take the moto win. Combined with a first-moto fifth, Covington was awarded second overall. "It was a really good weekend for us," Covington said. "After my knee injury at the end of last season I've Jeffrey Herlings won both motos at the MXGP of Trentino. PHOTOGRAPHY BY RAY ARCHER
