Road racer JD Beach (Team95 G&G
Racing, Yamaha FZ-07) posted the
fastest qualifying time on Saturday,
but as conditions changed, Beach fell
off the pace. Eventually a flat tire in
his semi ended what may be his last
venture into dirt track in 2018.
PILING ON THE WINS
Jared Mees has now won 12 of the last
20 races in the American Flat Track
Twins Championship and has finished
on the podium in 19 of the last 20 rac-
es. Mees looks to keep the domination
going. "The older you get the tougher
it is on the race track, mentally," said
Mees. "The physical part today was so
small; it wasn't enough to get a heart
rate up. Some tracks are more physi-
cal than they are mental. Some tracks
are more mental than they are physical.
This one was mentally tough, tedious
and technical."
YARD SALE
The second AFT Singles semi saw a
scary first-lap crash that involved half
the field. Polesitter Ryan Wells spun
down exiting turn two on the opening
lap, collecting most of the field with
him. By the time it was over bikes and
bodies were scattered the length of
the back straight. Cameron Smith,
Jeremy Werner and Beau Thompson
failed to return for the restart and Cory
Texter decided after running a practice
lap that he would sit out the rest of the
day also.
