CHAMPIONSHIP
VOL. 55 ISSUE 9 MARCH 6, 2018 P61
In the final main event, Craig
snatched the holeshot over
Baggett, Musquin, Anderson,
Webb and Tomac. A few laps
in, Baggett got kicked in a
rhythm section and nosed into
a jump, his arms buckling on
impact. He stepped off his
motorcycle and off the track
with a wrist injury. He would
not continue.
Musquin grabbed the lead
before long and ran away with
the win over Tomac, Webb,
Anderson and Craig.
Anderson took the win with a
2-1-4 over the 4-5-1 of Musquin
and the 5-3-2 of Tomac. It was
Anderson's fourth win of the
year, and Musquin's fourth sec-
ond-place finish in a row. An-
derson now leads Musquin by
42 points as the series heads to
Daytona next weekend.
"I just want to keep this ball
rolling, and stay consistent,
and keep doing good," Ander-
son said.
Dylan Ferrandis who was in champion-
ship contention going into the Atlanta
race. He was having a great night after
finishing second in the first main event,
and was then charging inside the top
five in the second main when he drifted
just a little too wide and clipped a Tuff
Block as he was launching off a triple
jump (the same one that threw Peick to
the ground). Ferrandis hit the ground
hard and suffered a broken arm and
knocked out a few teeth. He's heading
back to his home country of France for
treatment.
WEBB'S BACK
Cooper Webb is showing signs of
his former self. The last few rounds,
the Yamaha rider has been steadily
improving and had his best night of
the year so far. Had it not been for a
first-moto crash, he would've been in
the hunt for the overall win. Webb got
caught up in a crash with a couple oth-
er racers in the first race that included
Weston Peick and Broc Tickle, but
went 2-3 in the final two main events
for sixth overall. "It was a huge step for
me," Webb said. "Obviously, the sec-
ond main was the highlight of the night,
but this last one was really good, too,
so it's unfortunate I had that crash with
those other guys in the first one, but I'm
stoked. My goal was to try to get on the
podium, and I did it twice, so it was an
awesome step for me. I've been back
in North Carolina just getting more
comfortable, and yeah, it's nice to be
up here. It makes me appreciate all the
hard work, and it makes me feel good
that I'm closer to these guys."
UNFORCED ERRORS
Martin Davalos had choice positions
in all three main events in Atlanta. He
was leading the first main event when

(Above) Christian Craig (32) spent a fair about of
time leading the 450SX class. The Honda HRC fill-in
rider ended up fifth overall. (Left) Justin Brayton won
the first 450SX main, the first of his career, but he
didn't get the overall; instead, he finished fourth.
