ROUND 3 / JANUARY 20, 2018
ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA
P52
450SX
After a second week to heal following his round-one
crash, Tomac came into Anaheim II noticeably upbeat
and seemingly eager to compete. Unlike a week earlier
in Houston, where Tomac was unable to compete in
qualifying and sat the race out, at Anaheim II, he traded
the top qualifying spot with points leader Jason Anderson
(Rockstar Energy Husqvarna), and qualified third (behind
Anderson and Red Bull KTM's Marvin Musquin).
In the first of three main events, Tomac started just
outside the top five, but seemed to have trouble mov-
ing forward, and finished fifth behind winner Cole Seely
(Team Honda), Motoconcepts/SmarTop Honda's Justin
Brayton, Rocky Mountain ATV-MC KTM's Blake Baggett,
and AutoTrader JGR Suzuki's Weston Peick. But in the
second main event, Tomac snared the early lead and led
every lap, holding off race-one winner Seely in the late
stages of the race. After Seely came Anderson, Tomac's
teammate Josh Grant, Monster Energy Yamalube Ya-
maha's Justin Barcia, and Brayton.
Jason Anderson made a
confidence-boosting pass
on Tomac to win the final
race of the night.
