SUPERCROSS MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS SERIES ROUND 1 / JANUARY 6, 2018 ANGEL STADIUM OF ANAHEIM / ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA P58 Briefly... TOO EASY? The track at Anaheim I was con- sidered "easy" by most of the top racers, but in a way, that made it difficult. It was difficult because it was "easy to over-ride the track." That's what may have bitten Tomac in the main event. Just about every racer we talked to said that the track's layout made it so there was very little to separate racers. "When tracks are more difficult, sometimes we have to slow down to really make sure we make it through certain sec- tions clean," Adam Cianciarulo said after finishing third in the 250SX main. "But with this track, we were basically at 100 percent the entire time. For 15 minutes plus one lap, we were going as fast as we could." But because of this, racers found it difficult to make up time on each other. "You could spend five or six laps making up a 10th of a second each lap, just trying to get up to the guy in front of you, but then you could make one little mistake and lose a half a second, and you're right back where you started," Cian- ciarulo said. EQUAL FOOTING Metal starting-gate platforms are now being used with the intentions of providing every rider with equal traction. "The new metal starting gate makes it more consistent when lining up behind the gate, but the Jason Anderson was again solid at A1, this time getting second place.
