2017 FIM MOTOGP WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
ROUND 14 / SEPTEMBER 22-24, 2017
CIUDAD DEL MOTOR DE ARAGON / ALCAINZ, SPAIN
P56
pair changed places several
times, with Morbidelli's final
overtake on the exit from the Re-
verse Corkscrew corner giving
him enough of an edge to hold it
to the flag, thanks to his desper-
ate late braking at the end of the
straight.
He took his eighth win by just
over a tenth of a second, and
the pair embraced in parc ferme.
"It was a beautiful race, be-
cause we know each other very
well," said Pasini.
By half distance he'd set fast-
est lap and was on Morbidellis
back wheel, and on lap 14, he
was able to make his second
pass stick. If this was a sensible
sport, Morbidelli would have let
him go.
Instead, "I had to make the
decision, and I decided to race
as I normally race," Morbidelli
said.
He stayed close, and attacked
again on lap 18.
Over the last three laps the
Morbidelli grabbed the lead off
the line, and rapidly pulled away,
more than a second ahead after
just four laps.
By this stage Pasini and
Marquez had both got ahead of
Oliveira, still struggling for pace
with a full tank on the KTM in its
first season; while Luthi was fifth.
Marquez was riding injured after
fracturing his hip at Misano, and
now started to lose pace. This let
Pasini escape, and now he started
to hunt down Morbidelli.
Andrea Dovizioso (04)
must surely now be
getting worried his
2017 MotoGP World
Championship is
slipping away.
