SP2, who is enjoying somewhat
of a late season resurgence after
his wildcard appearance at the
Laguna Seca WorldSBK meet-
ing. Gagne's fifth place in race
one was his second top-five po-
sition in three races after scoring
in place of the injured Cameron
Beaubier. The former AMA Pro
Superbike Champion finished 11
seconds off the win in a strong
ride after getting the best of Jake
Gagne on the Genuine Broaster
Chicken Honda CBR1000RR
seconds at the flag to clinch an
emotional championship victory.
"I didn't want to wait [to win
the championship]; I wanted to
win today and we did it," said
Elias. "Josh [Hayes] and Roger
[Hayden] pushed me a lot. I
was trying to open a gap and it
looked possible, but at the end
I was thinking no. They came
back, but at the end everything
finished in a good way."
Behind Hayes came Josh
Herrin, making a return to the
Monster Energy/Yamalube/
Yamaha Factory Racing team
(Above) Hayden had Kyle Wyman
hounding him all the way in race two.
Wyman is the only rider other than
Elias, Hayes, Hayden or Cameron
Beaubier to take a MotoAmerica
podium this year. (Right) Matthew
Scholtz (11) and Danny Eslick were
hard at it in race one.
