MOTOCROSS
LUCAS OIL AMA PRO MOTOCROSS CHAMPIONSHIPS
ROUND 7 / JULY 8, 2017
THE WICK 338 / SOUTHWICK, MASSACHUSETTS
P88
only a few laps into the race
with a vicious inside move that
likely would've put Baggett on
the ground if he didn't sense it
was coming and jump the inside
berm. Tomac went on to win by
over 15 seconds over Baggett.
"We came out somewhere
around the top-four there and
out of the gate to block Tomac.
"Yeah, we were close there,"
Tomac said. "He came over
pretty good, so…I still came out
on a pretty good start consider-
ing the way we crossed lines."
Tomac made quick work of
the front-runners, though, and
snatched the lead from Baggett
points leader Marvin Musquin,
who is still healing from a knee
injury suffered a few weeks ago,
had a terrible day in the sand, re-
covering for fourth after an early
fall in moto one but then going
down big in moto two and scor-
ing a DNF while trying to match
Tomac's pace.
Add to that the fact that Rocky
Mountain ATV-MC KTM's Blake
Baggett is nursing an injured
tendon in his thumb from his
collision with Anderson a week
earlier, and things are looking
pretty good for Tomac right now.
And in the 250MX class,
things couldn't look much better
for Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Zach Osborne, who went 2-1 to
win his fourth 250MX overall of
the year to extend his points lead
to a whopping 45.
450MX
Coming into Southwick, Tomac
had won the two previous South-
wick Nationals (last year in the
450MX class, and 2013 in the
250MX class) and held 13 points
over championship rival Baggett,
25 points over Jason Anderson,
and 40 over Musquin. With half
the series still left to run, those
four racers were still legitimately
in the title fight.
In both motos, Baggett lined
up immediately to the right of
the "dog house," while Tomac
lined up to the left, and in moto
one, Tomac was lucky to come
out of turn one inside the top five
despite the fact that Baggett got
a great jump and turned hard left
Eli Tomac now has
momentum on his
side after taking
another win at
Southwick.
