Rockstar Energy Husqvarna's
Dean Wilson, but Wilson got the
edge for third overall with a 6-3
score, pushing Webb back to
fourth—still his best effort so far.
Wilson was dreading South-
wick coming in; admitting he
doesn't ride sand very well.
It was Wilson's first 450MX
podium overall finish, indoors or
out.
"It means so much!" Wilson
said. "I was getting a little soft
earlier; I was choking up! It's just
been a really hard journey and I
never gave up. It's been amaz-
ing. I'm just so happy."
But even Wilson was puzzled
as to why it happened at South-
wick of all places.
"Honestly, I fell in the first
moto and caught up to sixth...I
kind of surprised myself," Wilson
said. "This is a track I was dread-
ing all year. I'm not very good in
the sand—I tend not to be—but I
feel like my fitness played a big
roll, so I'm pumped."
Despite starting 2017 with-
out a ride, and putting together
privateer Yamahas to race at the
first few rounds with the help of
his dad and a few companies
like Pro Circuit, Wilson is reward-
ing his new team with some top
finishes and consistent perfor-
mances that have now landed
him, remarkably, fifth in points,
only 21 points behind Musquin
in third.
to just keep learning," Webb said
of his switch up to the 450MX
class. "I'm stoked to be up on
the podium. We had a bad crash
last weekend, and I was pretty
sore coming into this weekend,
so it's cool to get a good podium
finish."
Unfortunately, in moto two,
Webb again saw himself running
third late in the race, but a fall
relegated him back to sixth, and
he was unable to move forward
from there. The 3-6 score tied
him for points on the day with
crash at RedBud a week earlier,
where he went down at the end
of the start straight. Last year's
250MX winner at Southwick,
Webb looked much better than
he has in recent weeks, and in
the opening moto, he worked
his way past Peick early in the
race to grab third. He hung on to
that spot for the rest of the race,
scoring his first-ever 450MX
moto podium finish.
"It's been a struggle, to
be honest, but we're getting
through it and staying motivated
It was great seeing Dean Wilson
back on the podium, which was a
first for him in the 450MX class.
