Reynol ds couldn't afford a glance, beca use Ricky Henson (Yam) was ni pping at his heels unt il the Yamaha rider [el l. Revnolds' win was well -earned after he carne back from a broken colla rbone suffered less than a month ago at th e Clay Peak Euro- pean Scrambles. Moving into second and thi rd respectively when Henson fell were Dean James (C-A) and Kit Farley (BSA), both from Salt Lake, Ulah. T erry An'derson (Hon) kept Rey- nolds at bay in th e 250cc Expert Main. Running th ird was Ri cky Henson . Even though Reynolds miss- ed with one race in th e six-race series, he maintains the points lead in this class as well as th e 500s. Ritch ie Reyn olds (Suz), Rod 's younger brother, loo ked like a 10- year old gia nt killer against th e " big kids" on th eir SOs in the Min i B Main. Ritch ie made a determ ined cha rge on leader Jason Newhouse (Hon) bUI overcooked it going int o th e corner and fin ished out ol th e money. Sweetlandsweeps first in Salome By Mary lou Hines SALOME, AZ, MAR. 10 Arizona Husqvarna-sponsored Garth Sweet land took top honors and overa ll in the Ariz- ona Desert Racing Association's (ADRA) 9th Annual Salome 100. Sweetlands Iive-mi nure lead ahea d of second- p lace Open Expert Kevin Shinabarger let other racers ea t hi s d ust for th e seco nd time in a row in th e third desert race of th e Desert Ser- ies 'S5 Championship. Sweetland (Open Expert ) with a new 500XC had a lour-lap finish tim e of 2.54:19,52 seconds ahead of second overa ll , first 250cc Expert Robert Todd. The num- ber two pl at e Mike Powers (spon- sored by Sunnyslope Honda ) fought [or second position, 51seconds ah ead of Jamie Sims. The overall time of the top three 250cc Experts were I: I3 ah ead of second place Open Expert Shinabarger's 120miles check-in time. Directly behind was Open Expert "Flyin Ryan" Armitage taking thi rd [or th e third time in th e season series. "Stadium" Wayne Balzerak didn' t get his nickname by si tt ing in one -Balzerak 's 125cc Honda earned him first in th e 200cc Amateur class and 16th overa ll. Dan Ragland showed his on-the- gas techniques by a first in th eSen ior Amateur class and 12th overa ll. Last season's Mini, Chris Spurlock traded in his SOccKawasak i for a 125 and dominated th e two-lap cla ss.
